In medical school, Dr. Hung did a number of rotations and ultimately decided on general surgery because she found it challenging and at the same time enjoyed seeing the immediate results of her work to help patients feel better. “As a surgeon, what you do has a very big impact on people’s lives. One day they feel horrible, the next day you remove their appendix or fix a hernia, and they almost immediately feel better! It’s very gratifying knowing I can help people.”
At the same time, she enjoys getting to know her patients and developing a relationship with them. “To me, being a doctor is a privilege and, as a surgeon, I have the additional responsibility of knowing that what I do is very intimate; my patients put their trust in me to help them feel better, and I want them to know that I am on that journey with them.”
She is looking forward to being part of the community here in Calvert. “I grew up in a small town, then went to San Diego for college and graduate school, which was very different. I specifically chose Little Rock for medical school because it didn’t feel like such a big city. When I came to Calvert, I was very comfortable. It has the small community feel that I grew up with.”
As part of Calvert Surgical Care, Dr. Hung provides comprehensive surgical consultation and treatment for the full spectrum of general surgical needs of adults and older children.
