Dr. Ferraro graduated from the medical school at the University of South Florida and went on to complete his internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his residency in PM&R at the University of Washington in Seattle. His fellowship at the University of Florida focused on musculoskeletal spine and interventional pain management.

He worked two years at the VA Pain Clinic associated with the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System before joining the active medical staff at Calvert Memorial Hospital in 2009.

“The vast majority of patients that I see come in for neck and back pain as a result of disc degeneration or osteoarthritis,” said Dr. Ferraro. “It can be related to age, repetitive use or caused by trauma.”

Prior to treatment, he said, a thorough analysis of each patient is completed and an individual treatment plan is developed. Specialized tests like an electromyogram (EMG) or nerve conduction study (NCS) may be performed to pinpoint the cause and identify the best treatment choices.

“Our ultimate goal is to improve each person’s overall function and quality of life,” said Dr. Ferraro. “We use a variety of methods to accomplish this including physical therapy and medications as well as flouro-guided joint and spine injections.”

He went on to add, “I believe it’s important to involve the patient in their treatment plan. A lot of what we do involves them participating fully in their care.”
