CMH golf benefit set for May 18 at Lake Presidential

The 20th Annual Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Classic is set for Monday, May 18 at Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro. Proceeds from the event will help equip the new breast center under development at CMH. The center - the first of its kind in Southern Maryland - will provide local women with the access to the same quality of care you would find in a major metropolitan area.

"The center brings to the community the latest technology combined with an experienced team of specialists," said Dr. Sheldon Goldberg, CMH surgeon and a leader of the center's development, "to provide our patients with a compassionate and modern breast program whether you are a cancer patient or just coming in for an annual mammogram."

The change in venue is generating excitement, as well. "We feel our golfers will really enjoy the challenging course," said Pat Petricko, event chair and foundation trustee. "We've received very good feedback from past participants about the new location."

Named by Golf Magazine to their list of "The Top 10 New Courses You Can Play" and "One of the Top 25 New Courses to Play in the United States" by GolfWeek, 2008, Lake Presidential offers a great proximity to the Washington Beltway.

Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. The cost per player is $350 and includes breakfast, a cookout lunch and an awards dinner. Tee times are at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the event, each golfer will receive a pair of Nike golf shoes. New this year, are Capture Action videos that will allow golfers to access their footage online for one year after the event and compare their swing to some of golf's greatest players.

Since the tournament began in 1990, it has raised more than $700,000. Various sponsorships are still available including tee signs, foursomes and corporate packages.

"We want to thank those major sponsors who have stepped forward once again to support our tournament," said CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis, "especially Ricoh Americas, All American Ambulance, TSI Wall Exterior Systems, Wanda and Michael King and Community Bank of Tri-County."
