Calvert Surgical Care opens office

Dr. Steven Quigley Dr. Steven Quigley

Board-certified general surgeon Dr. Steven Quigley has opened a new office in Prince Frederick. He has been in practice for over 20 years and specializes in laparoscopic surgery. These minimally invasive techniques generally help patients recover more quickly and are often associated with less pain.

Quigley brings extensive experience in treating a wide variety of general surgical conditions such as the evaluation and management of benign and malignant diseases of the breast and colon, as well as gall bladder disease, hernia treatment, and management of diseases of the gastrointestinal (digestive) tract.

Quigley comes to us from Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina where he was both a staff surgeon and physician educator in surgery. Mission Hospital is a magnet hospital and regional referral center for western North Carolina as well as Georgia, Tennessee and southern Virginia. With over 40,000 surgeries performed annually it is the busiest surgical care hospital in North Carolina.

"Dr. Quigley is highly regarded and a welcome addition to our medical staff," said Calvert Memorial Hospital President and CEO Jim Xinis. "Physician recruitment is a challenge to all hospitals, so we are very excited to have attracted someone the caliber of Dr. Quigley to our organization."

"My goal is to provide comprehensive, personalized, contemporary surgical care to each patient as an individual," said Quigley. "I tell my patients: 'What is of concern to you ...is of concern to me. I know you're worried about this, so we're going to check it out and develop a plan to take care of it." "All of our patients know they can call us," he said. "We're not too busy to talk to them ... to listen and to try to understand their concerns."

Quigley graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC in 1984 and completed his surgical residency at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California in 1989. He served in the military from 1980 - 1992 and was attached to the 50th General Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1991 during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He is married with four grown children. Both Quigley and his wife are excited about returning to the DC metro area and getting involved in the Calvert County community. His practice, Calvert Surgical Care, will provide the full spectrum of general and laparoscopic surgery for adults and older children. His office is located in Suite 210 of the Calvert Medical Office Building, adjacent to the hospital. For additional information or to make an appointment, please call 410-414-9017.
