Finding a parking space when you’re in a hurry can sometimes be a challenge. But with our free valet service, patients and family members simply drive to the front of the Calvert Medical Office Building (next to the hospital’s emergency department). Courteous attendants take care of parking your car, and then retrieve it upon request. For patients and visitors with handicaps or those who don’t feel well, valet parking makes this task one less thing to worry about.
Five days a week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this service allows our visitors the option of having their cars parked so they don’t have to walk. This convenience is not taken lightly. On average, the valets park between 45 to 60 cars a day and in March of 2011, almost a thousand cars were parked (951), the busiest month to date.
People pull up for all kinds of reasons – bad weather in general and medical conditions that make walking or even getting out of the car difficult without assistance. Then there are their “regular” customers. Cancer patients who receive treatment in our infusion center can expect their keys to be brought to them and their cars pulled up as close as possible when the valet stand closes. Cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients who exercise weekly are driven over to the main entrance, dropped off and a rehab staff member calls when they’re ready to be picked up.
This is a personal service that is highly valued by those who rely on it. And while our valets are not allowed to accept tips, donations can be made the hospital’s foundation in appreciation of their excellent service.
