Choosing an Obstetrician

Choosing an Obstetrician

Your obstetrician will share one of the most exciting times in your life. You will have many questions and even some fears, so it's important to select someone with whom you feel comfortable.

Selecting an obstetrician is a personal choice that deserves careful consideration. Start by determining what qualities are important to you. A common way to find an obstetrician is to ask friends, family and neighbors for recommendations.

If you're new to the area or have recently changed insurance plans, you can call Calvert Memorial Hospital at 1-888-906-8773 for a referral. Currently, there are seven obstetricians on staff at CMH.

Consider interviewing your candidates in person. Ask about office hours, appointment scheduling, routine checkups and prenatal care. Is the office location convenient? At the end of your pregnancy, you may be visiting the office every week.

Part of having a good childbirth experience is working with a doctor who makes you feel safe and relaxed. You should be able to ask any question without feeling silly. If you have any specific plans for your labor and delivery, these should be discussed in advance.
