New General Surgeon Joins Calvert Memorial Staff

Board-certified general surgeon Dr. Jasmine Malcolm has joined Calvert Surgical Care in Prince Frederick. The Calvert Physicians Associates practice offers comprehensive surgical consultation and treatment for the full spectrum of general surgical needs for adults and older children. Fellowship trained in trauma surgery, she has a special interest in breast procedures, thyroid, hernias and abdominal surgery.

Dr. Malcolm has more than five years experience in treating a wide variety of general surgical conditions including the evaluation and management of benign and malignant diseases of the breast and colon as well as gall bladder disease, hernia treatment and management of diseases of the gastrointestinal (digestive) tract.

She comes to Calvert Memorial Hospital from Bradford Regional Medical Center in Pennsylvania where she has been a general surgeon since 2009. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed her general surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

“Patients are always anxious when they visit a doctor, especially a surgeon,” said Dr. Malcolm. “Part of being a good doctor is to listen to the patient, take a good history and keep the patient informed. Some patients need a little more time and that’s okay.“

“Every patient is unique,” she said, “and deserves whatever time they need to understand what is going on and to get their work-up done properly.”

Patients at Calvert Surgical Care receive a comprehensive examination, consultation, educational review, diagnosis and treatment of surgical disorders. Dr. Malcolm is committed to providing the highest quality and most effective care to each of her patients. She works closely with referring physicians to determine the best surgical treatment for each patient and encourages patients and their families to participate in all decisions made regarding their care.

Calvert Surgical Care is located in Suite 210 of the Calvert Medical Office Building (next to Calvert Memorial Hospital). The practice is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and accepts Tricare, Medicare and most insurance plans. For more information or to make an appointment, call 410-414-9017.
