Casino Night raises $9,500 for new pediatric equipment

(March 27, 2011) Thanks to the amazing generosity of our supporters, we’re very pleased to announce that Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 2nd Annual Casino Night raised nearly $9,500, said foundation spokesperson Diane Tarhan. The proceeds will be used to purchase pediatric IV equipment that will enhance medication safety for the 8,000 children treated annually at the Prince Frederick facility.

“These ‘smart pumps’ only let you deliver a small, pre-determined amount that is safe for children,” said Kara Harrer, clinical pharmacist at Calvert Memorial Hospital. “They are equipped with sophisticated software that prevents accidental overdoses.”

“I want to thank all of those who attended and who made the evening so special,” said CMH Foundation President Kathy Dickinson. “Fantasy World Entertainment and Maryland Country Caterers went above and beyond to make sure the event was a success.”

“We’d also like to express our appreciation to John Luskey for performing, to Sweet Sue’s Bake Shop for their delectable desserts, to Dunkirk Wine & Spirits for donating the wine and beer and to St. John Vianney for letting us host our event at their Family Life Center,” she said.

“I would especially like to recognize our sponsors for their ongoing commitment and dedication,” said Dickinson. “Leading the way was TSI Wall Systems, Inc, The Curtis Group, Fantasy World Entertainment and the Harvest Ball Committee along with American Radiology Services and J.W. Graner, Inc.”

Other event sponsors included Pat Petricko/Remax 100, Codgell Spencer ERDMAN, Walgreens and Wilson & Parlett, Attorneys at Law. Additionally, Calvert Internal Medicine Group, Dickinson Jewelers and 1st Mariner Mortgage sponsored tables. Linda & John Weigel, Family Auto Mercedes BMW, Julie Cornellier, Joe Doswell, Kathy Dickinson, Schrader Grady, Karen O’Brien, Cindy Parlett, Brooke Steuart, Terri Wolfley and James Xinis donated prize baskets.

“It’s the perfect time to thank everyone who got our 2011 fundraising off to such a great start,” said Tarhan. “We’re looking forward to our best golf classic ever on May 16 and our ball committee is already busy making plans for another memorable evening.”

“There are many easy and rewarding ways to lend your support through the existing fundraisers listed on our events calendar,” said Tarhan. “I encourage you to check them out at”
