CMH to host Mad Hatter’s Ball on Nov. 13 (September 3, 2010)

Proceeds to benefit colon cancer technology

Prince Frederick, MD (Sept. 3, 2010) Step into a wonderland of fantasy and fun at the Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation Mad Hatter Ball on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro. Proceeds from the annual charity gala will go toward the purchase of high-definition endoscopic cameras that will enable physicians to better detect polyps and other early indications of cancer.

“Compared to conventional systems, the new technology is state-of-the-art and provides much sharper images that will aid in better diagnoses,” said CMH gastroenterologist Dr. Yvonne Bright. Last year, 3,269 endoscopic procedures were performed at Calvert Memorial Hospital. A major expansion of the endoscopy suite is currently underway at the Prince Frederick facility to meet the high demand for this service created by the county’s growing senior population.

“The hospital ball is always a terrific night,” said Brooke Steuart, ball chair, “and I’ve no doubt this year will be just as much fun. It’s a wonderful way for everyone in the community to support a such a worthwhile cause.” “The committee volunteers work hard to deliver a fantastic event,” said Cindy Hargrove, ball co-chair, “and I’m sure this year’s ball with its Mad Hatter theme will be a night to remember.”

Since the ball began 22 years ago, it has raised over $1 million for medical technology and equipment. This includes the more than $132,000 raised last year to equip Calvert’s new breast center with the most precise, least invasive imaging technology available for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer today.

But don’t wait to buy what promises to be the hot ticket to an unforgettable evening’s entertainment. The cost is $475 per couple or $250 per person and includes a cocktail reception, open bar, gourmet sit-down dinner and dancing to a live band. Tickets can be purchased online at www.calverthospital.org or by calling the Foundation at 410-535-8178 or 410-414-4570. Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted. The arena’s spacious layout affords plenty of space for guests to mingle with friends in the lounge areas where the sound is graduated to allow easy conversation. You’d be mad to miss the opportunity to dance the night away to some great music in this superb venue.
