Robert Kertis Robert Kertis

Calvert Memorial Hospital has named Robert Kertis as vice president for finance and chief financial officer. He has 14 years experience in healthcare financial management. Since 2002, he has been director of financial planning and reimbursement at Pinnacle Health System, a $600-million multi-hospital teaching healthcare system in Pennsylvania.

Prior to that he served as controller at Mercy Providence Hospital in Pittsburgh for six years. Kertis received his master's in business administration from Robert Morris College in 1994 and his bachelor's in business administration (finance) from Indiana University in 1986.

In his new role, Kertis will oversee the financial management of Calvert Memorial and its subsidiaries, including a $125-million operating budget. Additionally, he will direct the 80-plus employees in the hospital's finance, patient registration and billing, medical records and materials management departments.

"Bob has strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in complex issues that make him uniquely qualified for the CFO position at CMH," said Jim Xinis, president and CEO of Calvert Memorial Hospital. "His leadership experience in managing the financial challenges facing community hospitals makes him a good fit for our organization."

"Bob was a key leader in a very successful organization," said Xinis, "and he will be a valuable member of our management team." At Pinnacle, he improved reporting processes that resulted in $1 million in additional insurance reimbursement.

Kertis said he chose to come to CMH because of its strong position in the community. "Calvert has formed key relationships with tertiary partners," he said, "and has focused on the things its does well."

He went on to add, "CMH is a very disciplined organization. I was impressed with the level of accountability."

Looking ahead, Kertis said the top priority is optimizing Calvert's reimbursement under the state's rate-setting structure while continuing to maintain the high level of quality care that is its hallmark.

On the personal front, Kertis, an avid fisherman and golfer, was recently engaged to Debbie Renner.
