Julia Garrity, CRNP
Julia Garrity is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner for Primary Care and Gastroenterology and splits her time between our Calvert Primary Care Dunkirk and Calvert Gastroenterology practices. Julia earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
Julia started her nursing career with the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System, moving to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC to become Charge Nurse. As a Family Nurse Practitioner student, Julia worked with Montgomery County Public Health Services, Anne Arundel Orthopedic Surgeons, The Pediatric Group in Alexandria , VA, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Heart Failure Clinic as well as Calvert Primary Care.
She joined Calvert Physician Associates full time when she received her Nurse Practitioner certification. Through her work in Calvert Primary Care, Julia drew the attention of board certified gastroenterologist Saad Haque, MD, Chief of Gastroenterology at Calvert Memorial Hospital and practicing physician at Calvert Gastroenterology. Dr. Haque agreed to mentor Julia in gastroenterology, allowing her to further her education and focus on a needed specialty.
While Primary Care lets Julia take advantage of all areas of study, including pediatrics and cardiology, GI lets her really drill down into a specialist area and become an expert in a single field.
“It’s amazing how much recognizing cross-over between my Primary Care and GI patients enhances how I practice. Working in GI provides me with a specialized skillset, helping me identify certain conditions in my Primary Care patients. Having a broader experience of Primary Care enables me to see things in my GI patients that might otherwise be missed. Integrating these two perspectives really helps me treat the whole person. It’s the best of both worlds!”
Julia is Board-Certified and licensed to treat, prescribe, order and interpret tests and lab work. As a Nurse Practitioner, she is your first point of contact for the diagnosis and treatment of any medical condition and your partner in achieving and maintaining good health.
