Community Loses Beloved Physician
The Calvert Memorial Hospital family is grieving the loss of our friend and colleague, Guillermo Zambrano, MD, who devoted his professional life to Calvert County for the past 39 years. Dr. Zambrano, medical director of Calvert Medical Imaging Center, an affiliate of CMH, died in a car accident early Friday morning.
A highly respected radiologist, Dr. Zambrano served on the CMH medical staff since 1974. He is well known and recognized among his colleagues for his excellent care and his tireless commitment to our community.
Dr. Zambrano was instrumental in developing the diagnostic imaging services in Calvert County, beginning with an office on the third floor of the old Weems building back in the early 70s, to this role in the development of the new state-of-the-art Calvert Medical Imaging suite in the Calvert Medical Arts Center that opened in 2009.
Most recently, he worked diligently alongside his colleague and great friend, the late Dr. Sheldon Goldberg, to establish the imaging services for what is now the Sheldon E. Goldberg Center for Breast Care at CMH. He has left a proud legacy of healing and giving and while his loss leaves a great void at Calvert Memorial, his spirit is alive and well in the example that he set not only with patient care but also with his philanthropy.
Dr. Zambrano’s reputation as a gentleman, a dedicated physician and a great friend will long be remembered with love and appreciation by his Calvert Memorial Hospital family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Guillermo Zambrano Memorial Fund, c/o Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation. Donations will benefit the Center for Breast Care at CMH, for which he was a passionate advocate. Checks can be mailed to the CMH Foundation at PO Box 2127, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 or click here, to contribute online.
